The Community of Divyadaan staged an English Play entitled, ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens, on November 30 and December 1 at Divyadaan, Nashik.

The annual play is an integral part of the extracurricular activity of the Divyadaan community. It provides the students in priestly formation, the opportunity to discover and develop their talents, skills and abilities. It is also an opportunity for the community to reach out to its neighbours and instill in them the gospel values in a creative way.

The play was directed by Fr Anthuvan M. Tharsis SDB, the Prefect of Studies and Br Mark Donald Suchiang SDB, the Assistant of the community. The play centers around the character called Mr Scrooge, who is an old rich man filled with greed and selfishness. He is visited by three spirits who show him his past, present, and future respectively on the night before Christmas. This event causes him much regret and grief. It brings a drastic change in his life. He realizes his mistake and changes his cold nature for the rest of the days of his life.

The brothers put up a band piece under the guidance of Fr Ian Pinto SDB before the play. On the first day, the annual concert started with a short prayer led by Fr Robert Pen SDB, the Rector of the community, who then addressed the audience. The hall was full of youngsters from various parishes in Nashik. On the second day, it was Fr Jacob Palaparambil SDB, the Vice-rector of the community, who addressed the parishioners and the religious present over there.

The show was much appreciated by the audience. It caught the sight of the viewers and left them awe-struck because the scenes offered them breathtaking panorama. The sudden loud noise of a thunderous clap and belly laughter could be heard enormously in the hall after the play. The play, “A Christmas Carol” was highly appreciated by the people. The audience carried home with them the message of love, joy, mercy, benevolence, and charity towards others.
