Divyadaan Salesian Institute of Philosophy, Nashik, marked the beginning of its academic year 2025–2026 with a quiet yet meaningful celebration. Centered on the theme “Come Holy Spirit, Inspire Us to Be Bearers of Hope,” the day reflected both the spiritual and intellectual spirit of the Institute.
The programme opened with a Eucharistic celebration, led by Fr Savio Silveira, Provincial of the Mumbai Province and Chairman of Divyadaan. His homily drew attention to the role of hope in our lives today, calling on the congregation to remain resilient and optimistic even in uncertain times.
After the Mass, Fr Ashley Miranda, Provincial Designate, blessed the newly built conference hall in the academic wing. The blessing marked an important step in the Institute’s ongoing development.
In a formal gathering that followed, Fr Robert Pen, Rector of Divyadaan, extended a warm welcome to members of the Provincial Council and to Fr Ivo Coelho, former General Councillor for Formation. Fr Pen also honoured Fr Silveira, the Vice Provincial, the Economer, Fr Coelho, and Mr V.S. Wamane, a senior faculty member retiring this year.
During his address, Fr Silveira spoke about the importance of intellectual formation in the Salesian tradition. He recalled how Don Bosco, despite many early challenges, held academic pursuit in high regard—evident in his prolific writings. Fr Silveira encouraged the students to value their formation in philosophy as part of their larger religious journey. He also commended the faculty for maintaining high academic standards over the years.
Fr Jacob Palaparambil, Registrar of the Institute, presented a detailed account of the previous academic year. He expressed gratitude to all the teaching staff, particularly those who were being transferred, and extended a warm welcome to the newly appointed faculty members. He closed his remarks by wishing both staff and students a productive and enriching academic year ahead.
A keynote lecture by Fr Jayaseelan Savariarpitchai followed, titled “A Metaxological Way to God: The ‘Between’ Philosophy of William Desmond.” The lecture explored various philosophical ideas surrounding the concept of God, addressing how these are shaped by both modern and post-modern thought. An interactive discussion followed the talk, allowing participants to reflect on the subject matter in greater depth.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks acknowledging the efforts of the Provincial Council, the faculty, and the student community. In a brief message, Mr Wamane shared his appreciation for the years spent teaching at Divyadaan and thanked the Institute for the opportunity to serve. The programme came to a close with the singing of the College Anthem.
